Get Your Gut Out of a Rut

A new national campaign is promoting digestive health and foods – like dried plums – that take care of your core.

A new survey by the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) (via a grant from the California Dried Plums Board) finds that 81 million Americans suffer from chronic digestive problems – everything from diarrhea to heartburn to ulcers. It’s an equal-opportunity disease, affecting all ages and leading to more serious conditions like obesity and cancers.

So the two organizations have teamed up to promote good digestive health. A centerpiece of their national campaign is the Core Score Quiz. It’s a quick questionnaire that helps people assess their “gut health” and recommends changes for better digestive health.

Ketchum Public Relations developed a media campaign to motivate people to take the Core Score Quiz and use the results to improve their digestive health. They hired 3D Communications to media train obesity, digestive health and nutrition experts who serve as the campaign spokespeople.

“Most people don’t realize how important it is to take care of your digestive core, from the inside and out, so this partnership is very exciting,” said Andrea Barish, Vice President of the Food and Nutrition Practice at Ketchum Public Relations, San Francisco. “We’ve reached more than 4 million people with our messages, and that’s great news for digestive health.”
